House Approves Water Resources Development Act of 2018 - June 6, 2018
By an overwhelming vote of 408-2, the House last night approved the Water Resources Development Act of 2018 (H.R. 8). More than 50 amendments were considered on the House floor when action began on the bill yesterday, with 50 out of 52 amendments approved. House Transportation Committee Bill Shuster and Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee Chair Garret Graves skillfully moved the bill through House consideration. The minority did try to move a motion to recommit but the motion failed by a vote of 180-227.
During debate yesterday on WRDA 2018, it was mentioned that Chairman Shuster plans to introduce infrastructure legislation later in the summer.
Now the focus turns to the Senate, where the Environment and Public Works Committee approved a much broader version of the water resources legislation, America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018 (S. 2800), on May 22.
In other news this week as lawmakers returned to the nation’s capital following the Memorial Day recess, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that he plans to keep the Senate in session in August rather than planning on a traditional August recess.
