House Transportation Committee Releases Its Version of WRDA 2018 - May 18, 2018
H.R. 8, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s version of WRDA 2018, was released today. The full Committee markup on the bill is planned for Wednesday, May 23. A copy of the 58-page bill, as well a section-by-section summary of the bill is attached. NAFSMA is currently reviewing the House bill. To access more information on the bill, go to https://transportation.house.gov/wrda-2018/.
As NAFSMA reported earlier, Senate Environment and Public Works Committee leaders also introduced the Senate version of WRDA, titled America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018. To access more information on the Senate bill (S. 2800), please go to https://www.epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases-republican?ID=B4C7D139-EA26-47E9-83A1-7AEFEFDFD74E. The Senate Committee on May 17 held a hearing on the bill with Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) R.D. James as the only witness. In his formal comments, ASA James made it clear that the Administration was still reviewing the bill and had yet to develop any official position on the legislation and noted his testimony would instead focus on the reforms that he and the Corps have been working on relating to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civil works program.
Senate EPW Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) made it clear at this week’s hearing that the committee leadership intended to offer a managers amendment to the bill and that markup on S. 2800 was planned for next week.
