Sept. 28, 2016 - House Passes WRDA 399-25
As one of its last actions before adjourning for the election recess, the House of Representatives this evening overwhelming (399 to 25) voted to approve that chamber’s version of the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 (HR 5303). With both chambers now having approved WRDA, the next step will be a conference committee during the lame duck session of Congress. Leaders of both the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (Chairman Shuster and Water Resources Subcommittee Chairman Bob Gibbs) and Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chair James Inhofe and Ranking Member Barbara Boxer have all indicated that they are working to have the bill approved by the year’s end.
Key to the final consideration and vote on the House floor was the inclusion of an amendment today to address the Flint Water Crisis. The amendment was offered by Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI) , numbered 19 printed in House Report 114-794 to authorize the Secretary to provide additional assistance under section 219 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1992 for certain communities for the repair or replacement of public and private infrastructure in any State for which the President has declared an emergency under the Stafford Act as a result of the presence of chemical, physical, or biological constituents, including lead or other contaminants in the eligible system.
