Waters of U.S. Rule Submitted to White House

The Administration's controversial "Waters of the United States" rule was submitted to the White House last week for interagency review by the Office of Management and Budget.  The advancement brings the rule one step closer to finalization after a lengthy consideration and development process.  It is unclear how long the rule will be in review though the original timetable expects it to be finalized in Spring 2015.

EPA Issues New Memo on NPDES Stormwater Permitting and TMDLs

EPA on November 26 released a new memo on NPDES Stormwater Permits and TMDLs – This memo replaces the November 2002 memo and 2010 memorandums on the issue.

Local Government Advisory Committee Reports on Proposed Waters of the US Rule

The Local Government Advisory Committee’s (LGAC) Protecting America’s Waters Workgroup on November 5 issued its report on the proposed Waters of the United States rulemaking.  The LGAC’s summary of its public outreach on the proposed rule was conveyed to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy in a November 5 letter that accompanied the release of the report.

EPA Invites Communities to Apply for Smart Growth Assistance

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today invited communities to apply for technical assistance to implement smart growth development approaches through the Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities program. EPA is offering this technical assistance to help communities across the country, including underserved communities, coastal communities, small cities and rural areas, adopt sustainable growth strategies.

NAFSMA and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support "implementation of low impact design (LID) and green infrastructure (GI) through joint education and outreach." The voluntary 5-year agreement was signed by NAFSMA President Dusty Williams on February 5, 2014.
