FEMA’s Technical Mapping Advisory Council Holds Its First Meeting

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Technical Mapping Advisory Council (TMAC) held its first meeting in Reston, VA, on September 30 and October 1, 2014.

NAFSMA members Gale William Fraser, II, General Manager of the Clark County Regional Flood Control District, and David Mallory, Manager of Floodplain Management for the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District in Denver, Colorado serve on the TMAC and participated in the meeting.  NAFSMA Executive Director Susan Gilson attended the meeting.

TMAC will be undertaking many activities and as a result will be creating a number of subcommittees, which will be able to rely on outside subject matter experts to assist in those areas.  Included among the TMAC issues are recommendations for FEMA’s flood mapping program to ensure the flood insurance rate maps reflect the best available science and methodologies for considering the impact of climate change and future development of flood risk.    For more information on TMAC activities, please visit  http://www.fema.gov/national-flood-insurance-program-flood-hazard-mapping/technical-mapping-advisory-council.
